I couldn't keep the smile from my face as I searched for one with a good label to photograph, nor would it go when I handed it to the register to buy it. Indeed, even now as I look at the one litre of rafia'd goodness on the desk next to me I am smiling. One of the all time greatest wine clichés and I've got a real one on my desk patiently waiting for the time when I jam a candle into it's open neck and hope the wax melts into a cool shape. Before I make you think it is total rubbish, I must insist on assuring you that this is a bonafide DOCG Chianti, basically the Italian wine heirachy, of which I imagine there to be about 45 million panellists, have given this wine the mark of quality...guaranteed! Well, time has been good to it, the fruit is developing nicely and the complexity of the wine is on display. It has sweet cherry and a beautiful smell of soft prosciutto, my mouth begins to water as I remember I have not 750mls but one litre of this wine, I start to smile again. It is cool and spicy in my mouth, the savoury, earthy notes blossom and the pure fruit shines on the back palate. Oh, Guicciardini Strozzi, I can only imagine how you have suffered due to our visual prejudice against your wine, but I will be a lone beacon of good tidings from now on and urge people to try this wine. This light bodied and wonderfully scented wine retails for about $24, and I will do everything in my power to help you find some.
