2004 Chateau Bonnet Bordeaux Rouge

This wine, like the Bourgogne, is from a very general appellation, in this case simply Bordeaux. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine shows a darker and more concentrated expression of fruit than expected, yet retains its elegance and refreshing appeal. On the nose there are hints of cassis and cedar, and some red juicier notes too. Amongst those fruit flavours are earth and savoury dry herbs. The palate is dry and raspy, the tannins making "short work" of your cheeks, but the red cherry and plummy flesh shows through as the gentle acidity edges to the back of your mouth, aided by some wood tannin. This is an elegant wine that will cost around the $30 mark, get a bottle and roast a leg of lamb and treat yourself to some happiness.
