Wow! What a surprise and what a wonderful thing to discover. This wine from the region of Corbieres on France's Mediterranean coast, made from a blend of Shiraz and Grenache, is terrific, it is better than terrific, it is the word that describes the happiness of contentment and pleasure and an immovable smile. Why has this wine not dominated the Melbourne wine scene for years? I can't get enough of it. It has blossoming violet scented florals and black pepper on the nose, saddled by a leathery sweetness. There is tobacco and cedar and clearly lots of indescribable phenolic compounds that invoke such glowing praise. The colour is rimmed with purple flashes and dark cherry flesh and, is very fresh and lively with a nose not too dissimilar to some of the great dense Beaujolais Crus of 2005. For a shade under $25 retail, the next time you leave your house, ignore the post office, forget to buy the milk, kids?...let them play at school for another hour, and go and buy this wine right now! I can always arrange some for you if agoraphobia sets in or if you like wine delivered to you in white boxes.
P.S It has flavours of dark chocolate too!!
