| 2005 Domaine Taupenot Merme Bourgogne Rouge
From a highly acclaimed vintage comes a lowly acclaimed appellation, that of the Bourgogne Rouge kind. I approached this wine with just the right amount of caution and to be honest was very pleased with what I tasted. Red fruits at first and dry ripe tannins, and after being open for an hour or more, the fruit opened up and became darker and richer, the mouthfeel even seemed plush. The tannins remained and I'm glad they did, forthright and assertive 'til the end. There were also liquorice, cherry and strawberry notes that lingered. I wish I'd had it with food, but it was a treat nonetheless, expect to pay around $38.
