This is one of those, 'I've wanted to try it for ages' wines, which are sometimes the scariest of all, especially when you have put them on a wine list without trying them. With the Vinea Marson Syrah, there was more than an audible 'phew' it was more a general sense of well being, and the wine tastes great too! It tastes of graphite, black olives, a note of anchovy, followed by super fine tannins and nice clean acidity. It leaves a sense of fine leather, nice perfume and a surprising elegance in your mouth. We all know Heathcote by now, and this wine is certainly a departure from the heavy, dense and concentrated monsters that seem to invade regions that become famous for Shiraz. I would be happy to see this wine more tannic and more earthy, but I am equally happy with it right now. This will cost around $42 retail, and if you are having a bit of Rhone phase, then include this in your next shopping outing. This is a producer to watch.
