This is the way ahead for Viognier in Australia, and I think new producers should study this style as it shows the floral and powerful nature of the grape, yet maintains an elegance that is vital in keeping what can be a very unctuous grape refreshing and palatable. The nose is lean and tight despite obvious dried apricot notes and the finish is full and generous, not with heat, but with the delivery of more hallmark spice and fruit weight. In the words of the old guy from Wheel of Fortune, you pay 'Top Dollar' for this wine, about $35 retail. This is amongst the best examples of this variety in Australia.
