I

2006 Crittenden Estate Pinot Noir

What a difference a bottle makes. I tried this wine earlier in the year and I wrote a review, in which I tried to be complimentary, but my heart wasn't in it, as such I never posted it. I gave it another try last night and was significantly impressed. The first bottle was closed and dumb, it was out of condition for whatever reason. The wine from last night was as if from another grape variety. It sang with piercing fruit and expressed fine elegant floral notes. The palate was alive, fresh and alluring. In fact the nose, palate and finish were all particularly attractive. It has earthy beetroot notes and savoury rhubarb, sweet fruit and wonderful acidity, the wine danced along my tongue and made me blink in delight. It is delicate in colour yet has powerful and concentrated ripe strawberry and spice. The tannins are fine and powdery, I think this has a couple of good years ahead of it, but it is looking terrific now.
