There are two interesting features of this wine from France. The first and most obvious is the use of the screw cap as a closure, which suggests an up to date view of the way wine needs to be cared for and used, and although it is staring you in the face, the slightly less overt suggestion of modernisation is the use of the grape's name on the bottle. Without trying the wine you can get an idea of the people that have made it and the style and market for which they are aiming. In most regions in France, the grape name is not used as they prefer to talk about the region it is made from, although, as with this example, that is changing. This wine is from the Loire Valley, and has a really tight, fine and spicy mouth feel. The flavours are of fruit, which evolve into steelyness and carry on in a long finish. The wine is very clean and precise, sharing some qualities of dry Riesling although the flavours are interesting and varied enough to be quite intriguing. I think is a great value wine, it will cost you $20 in bottle shops and as always available through BenandWine.
