| 2006 Leylines Shiraz
If you have ever cooed over a bottle of 389 or told stories of the day you might get to drink your great grandfather's bottle of Elderton Command, then stop spending all that money and buy some of this. The Leylines Shiraz is densely packed and full of black fruits, ripe raspberry notes and charry oak and spice. The wine seemed more forward and ripe the second day, and it has length that belies its price point, texture and quality well above my expectations. It is 15% alcohol, but didn't show it one bit, and the acidity was balanced, as in fact was the entire wine. This was a real surprise, and although it's not the style of Shiraz I would drink every day, it certainly impressed me and would do so at twice its price. Expect to pay around $25 for this wine, and expect to be pleased.
