I

2006 Montara Riesling

I don't think I have a love affair with Riesling, affairs seem secret and to confess to one with a grape variety seems stupid. If I were to have one, which I don't, it could well be with Riesling, I mean I love the wines that it produces, and that's no secret either. This wine is from the Grampians, and has a rich and almost heady nose, ripe fruit and notes of minerals, steel and a whiff of kero. The Montara Riesling has lovely mouthfeel, due to slight residual sugar, don't be scared off by that by the way, as the acidity balances it out. This wine has one of those qualities with a dumb name, and that name is drinkability! This one is quite rare, not in too many bottle shops at the moment, but certainly one to keep an eye out for. As always Rieslings are great value, and this is no exception at around $20. Ask your local bottle shop to get some in for you!
