This wine is named after the sound of many frogs bonking, which is said to sound like the word 'pobblebonk'. Apparently their syncopated call of bonk (not actual fornication), becomes a pobblebonk when they all get together...still with me? A blend of four varieties of grapes this very light coloured nearing clear wine has a very complex and bready nose. A richly textured palate, weighty, spicy and savoury. There is citrus rind, candle wax, steel, wheat and a grassiness mixed with honey. The wine is designed to be a little like the sound the frogs make, one grape variety on its own would only taste like bonk, but when all four are blended together you get a much more interesting and intriguing Pobblebonk! I like that this wine doesn't say what the grapes are, it is what it is, but I can also understand that this can be confusing for the consumer. For the record it is a blend of Pinot Grigio, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Riesling.
