Firstly, the Spanish call what you may know as Grenache, Garnacha. So far, not too complicated I hope. It has a nice dark cherry colour, vibrant and full sweet fruit and spicy, tobacco-y, meatyness. There is also some leather and earth and I nearly caught a glimpse of a strawberry in there. The Granrojo, has firm and fine tannins and regardless of the time of the day, a wine like this makes me want pizza. It has ok acidity, nothing to be alarmed about because the mission of this wine is to offer fruit and savoury-ness, and it fulfils its job description wonderfully. It has what lots of New World wines don't have and that is structure and I can't tell you how important that is, but if I did I would say it is very important. Stop reading and buy this wine now for $20, this is how Garnacha is meant to be.
PS. I left this wine in the fridge as it's still too hot for room temperature reds. When I looked at it again- that's wine speak for tasted it again - there were the most beautiful floral smells behind its earthy and savourniness aromas, it reminded me of some of the great Beaujolais I have tried recently. It really made the most wonderful transition in its time being open, about 6 hours and with a chill on it. I couldn't get enough of it.
