| 2006 Rusden Chookshed Zinfandel
Having recently looked at the Rusden Shiraz that had enormous palate weight and concentration, I was a little anxious about trying the Zinfandel, imaging a step up in all aspects of the wine. I was pleasantly surprised - this Zinfandel was seamless. It had powerful fruit and intensity, depth, concentration and lovely talcum like oak tannins. This wine, although big and powerful, defined balance as all elements of the wine fell into place. The wine showed classic dried fruit characters, but remained elegant and very "drinkable", far too often, a missing quality in wines of its ilk. This is the standout wine for me from the Rusden cellars, and it will cost a pretty penny, retailing for around $70, but the texture and flavour profile are well worth it and I can only imagine the complexity this wine will offer over the next 10 or so years. A fantastic Zinfandel!
