| 2006 Smiths 310 Shiraz
A new producer to me from Beechworth, the 'Smiths 310 Shiraz' has beautiful savoury fruit and lovely texture. The wine was a little tight at first but offered lots of black fruits; liquorice and I even started to get some chocolaty notes. It was elegant, with fine gripping tannins, savoury without being too dry, and offers ripe fruit without being a fruit bomb. To me, this is the way forward for Australian Shiraz, elegance, complexity and flavour, and a few more years will make this even better. If you can find any it will cost around $35+, or you can click on the link and get some from the cellar door.
