| 2006 South Estelle
Named after a famous 'olden days' Tasmanian actress, who used the pseudonym Merle Oberon, this wine too calls itself by something other than what is inside, that being Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. This is one the best aromatic whites in the country and at two years old is a fantastic advertisement for the depth of cool climate viticulture that is our very own Tamar Valley in Tasmania. The wine has obvious citrus and steel notes on the nose backed up with more floral and blossom top notes, it is a pleasure to smell. The more you smell it the more there is, as notes of honey and nougat waft upwards. The palate is packed with flavour, it does show some aging notes but this wine is all about freshness and springtime. Great acid, lovely mouthfeel, and intriguing complexity, all for about $19.
