This wine has the typical and assumed weight of what Gris should offer. In the mouth there is a richness and consequent sweetness. Its perfume is floral but it is also quite mineral and stony and it has a breadth to it that you don't find in enough Australian Pinot Gris. It is made in the Pfalz region,of Germany, by Ernst Loosen, the so-called 'Obi Wan Kenobi' of the wine world, known for working magic with the Riesling Grape. This wine has fresh green apple and notes of hay. What it lacks in length it makes up for in mouth feel and overall impression, and I really think it is well worth the $22 price tag. Try this with a fatty pork chop and some simple boiled potatoes, with maybe even a sage butter sauce.
