2007 Fairbank Rose
Made by the folks at Sutton Grange, this Rose is not your typical bright pink, it is more your onionskin, coppertone coloured Rose. Do not be put off by this! On the nose I got cinnamon and fresh creamy notes, there was also some herbal, vegetal whiffs, savoury not sweet. The palate is rich and creamy and offers peach and apricot kernel flavours, this is quite a textural Rose, the palate weight seeming to build while the wine is in your mouth. There are hints of baking spice on the palate, suggesting some wood, but not dominant or unpleasant at all, the wine is really quite something, and very enjoyable. I hope the exploration of Rose wines mean that they become more mainstream, they deserve it and they are a pleasure to drink. This one will cost about $28.
