This Riesling is from the West Tamar, north of Launceston in Tasmania. The history of the property is that they have been selling the fruit to other wineries until the time came to make it under their own label. Their whole range of white wines, and this 2007 Riesling in particular, are terrific. The wines flavours are on a knife-edge, the fruit purity and sweetness are balanced by the region's hallmark acidity. There are gorgeous floral notes woven between steel and it has a firm mineral texture on the palate. Any sweetness is totally and utterly swept away by the fresh and assertive green apple and lemon acid, it is very refreshing and has good length. The key to this wine is its simplicity, its abundant fruit quality and the way it presents itself for your senses. To smell it is to want drink it and the aromas are beautifully mirrored in your mouth. It is so good!! This is available through BenandWine for $21.00, and I'll give in to a gross cliché and tell you to 'do yourself a favour,' if you like Riesling, do not ignore this wine!
