| 2007 Mandala Pinot Noir
This is a new producer to me, and a great surprise. Pinot Noir at this price point rarely delivers, but the nose of this wine really impressed. It was full of dark char and bacon bone notes coupled with earth and dark fruits. The Mandala has a silken texture and an array of berry compote, pepper and basically loads of complexity for a $25 Pinot. I made sure I looked at it over time as the trend is for many cheap Pinots to fall away, but this continued to offer interest and new flavours, despite losing some of that charry quality the fruit still sang out and made a terrific impression upon me.
