2007 Paradigm Hill Riesling

There are certain regions that so closely align themselves with a particular grape, or grape varieties that others tend to suffer from an ugly duckling syndrome. Indeed I think it is not uncommon for some people to make certain varieties that they have no place making whatsoever... but that is not what this review is about. This review is about a simply fantastic Riesling from a place that is famous for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, that place is the Mornington Peninsula. This wine has a wonderfully aromatic nose and forward fruit, but it also offers stone and flint. The mouthfeel is a wonderful balance between expressive fruit and bright, crunchy acidity. I haven't enjoyed a Riesling so much for some time. This really is one of the top Rieslings I have seen from Victoria and is a total delight to drink. The Paradigm Hill Riesling offers classic notes of citrus, delicate blossom and wonderful stony, slaty mouthfeel, which offers great length. I am very, very impressed.
