2007 Pewsey Vale Riesling

I know all of the '08 Rieslings are being released, indeed, the O'leary Walker '08s have been out for about 6 months already, but this is the time I like to look at '07 vintages. The '07 wines are still offering delicate floral and citrus notes, but they are a little broader in the mouth and less piercing. The '07 Pewsey Vale has all of those things, and in fact still looks remarkably fresh. It has a lovely fresh and clean nose, delicate and complex with lemony citrus notes, white flowers and a hint of steel. The mouth mirrors such complexity, and again offers ripe fruit and delicate mouthfeel. The wine's acidity is still terrific, yet the gently expanding fruit weight suggests a softness in the mouth. I think Pewsey Vale suffers in the market because people don't think it's "cool" enough, but the aromatics from this wine and their gewurz are beautifully balanced and picture perfect for these varieties. Costing around $20 it is a great bargain, and now that the '08s are released you might be able to pick it up the '07 in a deal!
