| 2008 The Darling Sauvignon Blanc
Yes, I know... another Kiwi Sauv Blanc in the market, just what we need! Well, despite the overwhelming popularity, and possible saturation from this variety, I feel there is always room for quality, and this is just that. Spicy on the nose, there are hints of green apple, grass, nettles and passionfruit, and an almost perfumed quality too. I guess the easiest way to describe it is complexity, or just, 'it smells really good'! It is inviting, and the palate echoes those tight fruit characteristics on the nose and with fresh acidity and pure fruit, the wine delivers a wonderful mouthful of wine. Fresh and bright, the tiny amount of this wine coming into the country will find its way onto wine lists rather than bottle shops, however if you eat out or drink in and around the city you might well find yourself sitting in front of a list with 'The Darling' on it, and if you do, I suggest you buy it.
