2001 A et P de Villaine Bouzeron Aligote

From the unheralded apellaltion of Bouzeron ( booze-er-ron) in the Cote Chalonnaise, south of the grand vineyards of the Cote D'or, the de Villaines,  owners of DRC, make a single varietal wine from Aligoté. For $45 in a wine shop in the Blue mountains, it was hard to decide which of the amazing old and rare wines to choose, the selection was as much a surprise as the wine turned out to be. This wine had ample taught acidity, which would have aided its longevity, and lovely fruit, looking more like wines from Macon in the north. Slightly nutty, with great length and minerality, this wine tasted very clean and very similar to it's Burgundian blending partner Chardonnay. If you find this wine, look for some fresh seafood, oysters especially, and enjoy a wine from a producer whose top wines may forever be out of our reach.
