Chestnut Hill Vineyard, Mt Burnett
5th August 2008

A couple of weeks ago we visited the Chestnut Hill Vineyard at Mt Burnett in Victoria. It was quite an eye opening day. We had pasta made in front or our eyes, we toured a vineyard of eye popping beauty, then toured the truffle paddock and saw the amazing truffles they are growing. During the day we tried all of the wines that Charlie and Ivka make, and that is were we found the 2005 Chestnut Hill Nebbiolo. This wine is magnificent, and without peer in the Australian wine market I believe. I'll be reviewing it in the next few weeks, but for now you can read the Sauvignon Blanc review and look at some pictures of the vineyard and truffle paddock ( I'm not sure what you call a place where you grow truffles, perhaps it's a grove...advice happily accepted).

Pictured below, you can see the empty Chestnut husks.

These two pictures below are the Truffle "grove". The absence of grass underneath the small trees was called "brulee", which refers to it looking burnt. This brulee-ing of the soil is a good indication that truffles may be growing there. Charlie and Ivka had a local dog trained to do the hunting for them, with some very impressive results.
