Coonawarra Visit18th August 2008
i have just returned from a short trip to Coonawarra, and here are some of the early pictures of some of the different pruning methods.
Below are pictures of the Coonawarra railway platform and some of Bowen Estate's arch cane pruning method.
Here we have what I hope is a yet to be pruned, unknown vineyard and some of the already pruned Katnook vines.

These are Redman's Shiraz vines and an old Wynn's bushvines.

The majority of Coonawarra vineyards are pruned by machine as the large area planted and the shortage of a labour force mean it is almost impossible to manage without the help of mechanisation. Hand pruning still takes place, but most of the work is done by tractor and small teams then go through and clean up.
