Eric Bordelet Poire Granit

I guess there are lots of wines that excite me, but there are few that come close to this one. In fact it isn't a wine at all, it is Perry, a drink made from Pears in Normandy in France. The easiest way to describe it would be to call it a pear cider. It tastes like pears, it smells like pears, it has mouth cleaning acidity - in a good way, a very persistent sparkle - which I didn't think would last but it did, it is so fresh and easy, and best of all has only 3% alcohol. It seems so simple and pleasurable, yet it has come a long way, not just from France but the pear trees themselves are 300 years old! There is something so rewarding and content making about having this Perry, not least because you can have lots of it without needing a cab, but I guess because it is just is a little pear drink, and nothing else. I'll let you romanticize about it on your own however would recommend trying it with some cheeses from Normandy; soft white mould, or a slice of pear perhaps. You won't find this too easily, although it should be on every shelf in town. If you get stuck you can get it through me for about $30.
