This producer is becoming very well known amongst Melbourne's wine pros, and ever more present on restaurant lists and in bottle shops. The wine is named after the winemaker who currently has three different Pinot Noirs available, the Yarra Valley, Coldstream and Woori Yallock. A spicy, strawberry scented wine, with a soft creamy mid palate and nice chalky tannins, this is a very good Pinot Noir. It has persistent length and balanced acidity and the oak is not at all dominant, but does show itself, mainly in texture rather than flavour.
I am of the opinion that quality Pinot Noir begins at around the $30 mark, and as an entry level Pinot Noir this has great fruit expression and, to use one of my favourite terms - varietal typicity. Basically, it tastes like Pinot Noir and it looks like Pinot Noir. At the risk of using the words Pinot Noir too many times in a review, this is a terrific example of not just Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, but Pinot Noir full stop (and can be picked up for around $30).
