2007 Nepenthe Sauvignon Blanc

I often think people believe the real name of Sauvignon Blanc to be  'Marlborough Savvy' or 'New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc' and for some reason, in classic Australian style we have just stopped bothering to say all of it and it is just a 'Sav Blanc'. For those of you who are in this category, there is another region that does a great job of producing aromatic wines and it is in our own backyard and that place is the Adelaide Hills. Nepenthe makes great wines across most varieties and this Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect example of varietal typicity. That means it tastes just as the grapes that make it should. It has a lovely fresh aroma of tart tropical fruits and cut grass and the palate sings with delicate floral aromas, there is even a hint of lychee. It is obvious in its flavours without punching you in the face, and it has surprising length as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this wine had spent a tiny part of its life in barrel as there seems to be some steely notes to it amidst the herbal fruit profile. In a word it is delicious.
