| NV Quinta de la Rosa Ruby Port
Not for the faint hearted, this Port excels in spice and complexity. It has vibrant and fresh red fruit character and also a rancio note of roasted nuts, raisins and burnt sugar. Perfect for a cold night, although not as good for reflux; the wine offers a generous amount of heat on the way down. There is a rustic charm about this wine, something timeless that I don't see in a lot of Ruby ports nowadays. This wine will have more perfect and concentrated competition on the market, but I like that it has rough edges. Paired with its "old world" charm is a happy price tag of under $30. This week's wine reviews are dedicated to the number 30 and the pursuit of happiness. As all are under $30 and they all made me smile. This style of wine goes well with cheese plates, the bluer and stronger the better, and also nut and dried fruits, and I'm sure a liberal dash in a stew wouldn't be too frowned upon by the winemaker.
